October Public Water Forums

October Event: Candidates' Public Forums

Learn where the Shenandoah Valley candidates for the General Assembly stand on issues of concern to their constitutients regarding water.

The Candidates Public Forums are sponsored by the Shenandoah Valley Pure Water Forum, the Potomac Conservancy, the National Parks Conservation Association, Page County Water Quality Advisory Committee, Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, Friends of the Shenandoah River, and the Shenandoah Basin Project.

The Community Mediation Center will moderate the candidate forums for citizens to hear their viewpoints on water issues related to:

  1. the ongoing fish kills in the Shenandoah Valley,
  2. reduction of non-point sources of pollution,
  3. growth and water resources

  • Each candidate will receive three questions in advance so that they can prepare their responses. This will allow citizens to compare responses and determine candidates positions and knowledge of critical concerns,
  • Questions will also be selected from the audience on water issues.

Water Supply Planning - Navigating the Merging Streams of Water Law

"This paper examines the current regulatory environment applicable to water supply projects and the increasing impact of water quality regulations on water supply projects. This paper will then provide an overview of pending water supply regulations and discusses whether those regulations will be an effective tool in developing a state-wide water supply plan."
